First posting :) so bear with me :)

I have a rather rough-looking coin that I am trying get more information on: it looks like Arabic script, with some of it in a circle. Searching online has gotten me two leads:

Either Umayyad or Delhi Sultanate - any thoughts?

Yes, it is an Islamic coin. In the right hand picture I can make out alaf, lamb, ta mabuta. That spells "allah" (or in English: The God)

I cant make out the rest but it might be the shahada (declaration of faith). I am thinking Ummyadd for sure.

If a moderator could move it to http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=51
You might get more responses.

(That is the ancient and medieval coin forum by the way)

Thanks -- maybe I should try to get a better picture of it. I definitely saw the "allah" part (about the only Arabic I can make out - don't know Arabic, but it is common on Muslim monuments).

You can probably see coin better in person, eh? Does this look right?

#1604;#1575; #1573;#1604;#1607; #1573;#1604;#1575; #1575;#1604;#1604;#1607; #1605;#1581;#1605;#1583; #1585;#1587;#1608;#1604; #1575;#1604;#1604;#1607;

On a side note feel free to introduce yourself here if you plan on sticking around and collecting coins.

Thanks! Yeah, it is easier to see "in person" -- one of the things I need to do (with a magnifying glass) is check the characters outside of the circle. Yesterday, I saw online some photos of coins from the Delhi Sultanate, with the unique feature that the characters outside of the circle were in Devanagari, not Arabic...

BTW, what's "#1604;#1575; #1573..." - does my web browser needs some special encoding to see them as special characters?
