An article from BBC's site at http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-31717210 reports that according to the Bank of Canada the drawing on the $5 bill, while legal, is not encouraged.

Apparently PM Laurier has similar enough features to Spock to make this work.

I wonder if the polymer notes are harder to draw on than the older paper/linen bills.
