It's not really great shape, it would be maybe G detail with a scratch but it's pretty. It's greyside but it could have been used in the Colonies/early America, so I put it here.

Hi Donnie,

Can you read the legend on the reverse? After "HISPAN ET IND REX" and before the 1R there's a mint-mark. If it's in that poor of condition, however, it's worth very little over melt.

Cheers,

~Roman

Spanish Colonials are a fun area to get into. Most go for 8 Reales denomination (crown-sized), but there are also some nice minors available. The one below has the same reverse as yours. It was minted under King Ferdinand VII, not Carlos III, like yours. The placement of the mint-mark, however, is identical. "Mo" on reverse after "REX" indicates that it was minted in Mexico City.

The catalog value of a 1776 one real coin is $3 in Very Good. However, an authentic 1776 dated coin that could well have been used in colonial America typically sells for a premium. The catalog does not show any difference in value between a 1776 and a 1799 one real coin, but the significance of the 1776 date attracts more bidders (and higher prices) on ebay.
