West palm beach, Florida. Just started coin collecting, needed a new hobby besides bowling and work. I do need advice on starting my collection if anyone is interested. :)

Quote: I do need advice on starting my collection if anyone is interested. :) Hey "Wrecking Ball" welcome to this CCF forum. I collect paper & only collect RCM coins or put aside a few for my nephews (my brother had the big coin collection). I typically collect special issue (commemorative or other) common coins. I do remember a few pointers from collectors I've met over the years: Find a coin denomination you like (1 cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, etc) and focus on those. Or you can focus on specific pre-dates, error strikes, or a country's coinage. The best rule of thumb (if you're going to buy) is get the best grade (you can afford) since these are the ones most valued. If you're going for a range of years (e.g.: 1960-1969) again just keep the best of that coin you've found and trade/sell the 1 which must go. What not to do: clean silver or copper coins (just don't clean them!) Collect "whatever" I would suggest specializing because that's what makes the hobby fun. Plus if you remain unfocussed in your collecting - your collection can get quite big Hope this helps! W2W

I enjoy Type Set collecting. It gives me a wide range of coins and I design the set. It can be first year, last year, Low mintage set.

My name is Jeremy, I live in Rhode Island, I've loved coins and their history since I received my first from my Grandfather around 30 years ago. A beat up Philipine/US Peso and an 1898 Morgan. I never really collected though because all I ever ran into were retail sales which can be a little out of my price range. It wasn't until about 6 months ago that I discovered the joys of estate sales and auctions that I am collecting in a frenzy. Can't wait to meet some others and discuss coins.

I live in a town called Grandview,Indiana. In the USA. I have a question about a 1941D penny I happened on to. It appears to not be struck on the reverse side, and was wondering what it might be worth. Does anyone know what the nominal thickness may have been, or how to tell if this is a fake?
