Barber coinage circulated heavily - coinage transacted then at a far higher rate than today since it would complete most transactions. So, this coin could conceivably have been in the ground by the turn of the century. I love thinking about stuff like this. Report this Post to the Staff

Cascade Pillar of the Community United States 7390 Posts	Posted 03/05/2015 5:47 pm Oh man, just bought a detector because of all these finds... 1901-s earth to auction thread did it for me! dying to go up to the family cabin in Tahoe in June to try my luck. its been in the family 70 yrs with no detecting ever! After finding the 1652 Pine Tree Shilling it was all over. Dr Tones coin was a beauty for sure. The best sort of detecting is knowing that there's super rare and valuable coins in the dirt.
