Peter, I agree he would have been better advised to spend time here, but unfortunately he had already listed the auction. So all he can hope for now is to at least get melt value. If he is lucky he will get more. But as Peter said it's a gamble on the buyers end as to whether there is anything of significant value in the lot.

The auction still has 8 days remaining and the photo does not show specific coins, just one lot of coins. He could search the coins and remove and replace key dates with like common dates (available at any coin shop). Had he listed dates/mintmarks, that would be a different story.
icancu202, can you post a picture of the unknown "gold" coin for the group to help you with. It may just be "gold colored or gold toned" base metal.

Yes, I will get a picture of that particular coin right now. If you could help me out with information on it, that would be cool.

Andrew how is replacing these ... coin for coin deceitful? With one exception (1907 Barber dime) he did not specify "a coin". He does not even say "unsearched" or offer the promise of a possible treasure. The photo in the listing is too small to identify specific dates and/or mintmarks. If he found a 1921 Mercury in the bunch and replaced it with a 1944 ... how does that change the listing? It doesn't. You're bidding on coins, by type, in the date ranges specified.

I haven't done any research on these coins at all. I simply used a "Silver Coin" Calculator that was provided to me to get the bullien lowest estimate price. So being completely honest...since I'm not a coin collector, I'll be happy with anything I get. I haven't inspected any of the coins nor have I looked through them. The only things I have done were: count the amount of coins & get a rough figure of what the dates are on the coins. I have no experience in coin collecting nor do I know anything about it. I NEVER had the intentions to be deceitful...what you see is what you get, like I always say.

icancu, Do what you feel comfortable with. I am an honest person and a very experienced Ebayer. What I suggested is based on the words in your listing (semantics have nothing to do with it). You'll find that most of us here have a completely acceptable moral compass ... just not as far left as Andrew's. And that's the last I have to say on this issue. Good luck.

icancu, Regarding the "gold" coin. It appears to be a medal of French origin. I can't make out the full name ... I see Joseph Delsert, and Elen L*****. You might try to google the names and find some additional information.

Thanks for the information. I was just looking at the coin and came across the words "repvbliqve francaise" on the front. I googled it and apparantely it is a french coin, however, I haven't yet found this particular coin. The year that appears on the back of the coin is 1902.

Could you tell us what all the words on both sides of the coin say?

For some reason, when I see the quote "My grandfathers collection" along with the word "Unsearched" in a coin forum post, I always seem to smell spam frying on the stove...... MM

I am concerned about the comment to remove any desirable dates and or higher grade coins and replace them with common coins purchased at a coin shop. This is an auction. It is the sellers responsibility to know about what they are selling just as much as it is the buyers to know what they are buying. I was considering a bid on this auction as to me it was it would represent the closest thing to an unsearched lot on ebay I have seen in some time. I am no longer interested in paying anything over melt. The lot of coins was gathered together and photographed then placed on ebay any attempt to change the intended lot in my view constitutes a bait and switch. I will be the first to admit that by reading this thread I have an advantage over most ebayers considering bidding on the lot as do the hundreds of other no forum members who may or may not have seen this post. I just consider myself a more informed buyer.
