First of all the $1.00 gold coin was minted until 1889, not 1879. The 1880 has a low mintage, but so did many type III's and they do not have eagle reverses or are they so large. Now, this appears to maybe be a quarter eagle, again they were produced through 1907, not 1879 in Liberty form. The size looks about right for a Q/E. I would not buy a coin with the B.S. explanations and bad photo's displayed here. Mike
P.S, the wing tips are to high and to close together for a Q/E and the shape and position of the eagle is all wrong for any gold coin I'm aware of!!!!!!!
