Picked this up at a local show today for 3.50. I would grade it about MS-62 and it has a couple nice die cracks on the rev.
I spotted another Type B rev at another table but the dealer had several of his "Gem " quarters marked 20 dollars and I thought that was a bit steep for a 1963 P quarter so I passed on that.

Now I just have to find that elusive Type C 64-D....

I just started to look for rev B & C quarters a few weeks ago. I have a bag of about $600 face in silver quarters so I started my hunt there. I found 13 Rev B quarters (no 58 and no 62) VF-AU and one 1964D Rev C quarter in AU!

Nice find for 3.50. No coin shows around here for me unfortunately. My best bet is as Harvey posted, to pick up a bag of junk silver and search.

Welcome to the forum Harvey!

My only remaining question is if these type B reverses, which are the proof design, are actually struck from proof dies, used or new? I'm not familiar with how proof dies are made, are they impressed with the hub more times than a circulation strike die perhaps? Or is it possible to put the proof design on a regular die?

I know that proof coins are struck more than once usually.

Just was wondering, Harvey, if you could post a nice pic of your type C.

This is the first time I have gone to this show, they have it every third Sunday. Small show from what I have heard from others about shows, but most were friendly and helpful .I thought the prices were a bit high for most things there, but there were bargains to be had like anywhere else.
I usually search melt bags for my type B 's , but when I spot one like this for that close to melt - I had to have it. I am fortunate to have a very friendly and helpful - and very fair - dealer in my area .
And thanks for the edit, I am trying to get the picture thing down- I thought I did it right, guess not !

Here's a picture of my 1964 Rev C. Not easy to get the closeup of the tail feathers and the lines in the tail feathers. Here's a link,
picture is too big to post.

Hope this works, I'm new to this forum and I'm not sure how to do this.

Regards, Harvey

Looks like my link didn't work for my picture of my 1964 Rev C Quarter, Let me try again.

Nope, the letters didn't turn blue so the link won't work.

If someone would be kind enough to help me post the link,
I would appreciate it and everyone can have a look at my coin.

Regards, Harvey

Grats on the Type C! I've been actively trying to find one without luck.

That's a very nice find.

Hey Harvey,

When your composing your post just click on the 1959-Type-B-Washington icon above the post box. Then put the full image url between the tags it creates. It's that simple.

Thanks to Bobby and Forum Dad for the help with my pix. I saw a 1964D Rev C BU for sale at the local coin show this weekend. Dealer had it and knew what he had. He sold it for $225.00. He also had some AU Rev B quarters, but wanted "crazy money" (IMHO) for them. I looked through a dealer's bag of circ quarters at the show and found an XF 1956 and XF 1959 Rev B. Regards, Harvey

Yea, don't pay more than $10 for any Type B coin. There's lots of them out there.

I offered the dealer $10 a piece for AU Rev B pieces and he wouldn't take it. I found some VF-AU pieces for 10 times face in dealer's bags of junk silver quarters. I'll keep looking in dealers circ quarters at the shows for more.....

Could we change the subject please? I keep thinking about the 100's of junk Washington quarters I had about 3 weeks ago, and failed to look for the different reverse types because I hadn't yet been educated on them!

(at this point adobero manages to compose himself long enough to congratulate the others on all their finds)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Hello,

I found a MS 63 1963 tybe B reverse and it has in the cheery pickers guide that there are only 4 to 8 known....And I read here that there are lot of them out there. I only paid $1.75 for it so I think I got a real STEAL!...What is the type C reverse on that 64-D...I seen the pic but cannot make it out that good. Thank you 300 coin guy
