The hump: uploaded/ywan/20071029184237_hump.jpg

I bought it from ebay with dear price. It looks very attractive. However, when I got it, I found the weight is not 26.9568 grams as indicated in the catalog. Instead, it is 0.1555 gram less.

Upon further look, I found there is a lump on the reverse side: if you look at the upper left side of the center, you will find it.

So is it possible that this is a counterfeit coin? This supposed to be a UNC coin in mint condition. It looks also like. Just the weight and the lump sound not right.

any comments?

From the pictures it looks Okay to me. The weight difference is tiny and I wouldn't worry about that. However from the pictures of the reverse it appears there are some hairlines which would suggest it may have been cleaned. Also from the pictures its kind of hard to make out the "lump" but it could be a small die break. Unless you can take closeups of the "lump", the above would be my best guess.

I must add that I don't collect Trade dollars so we should wait for a collector with more experienced on Trade dollars to hear their view on it.

I am not the one to ask so this an assumption on my part , but the coin appears to be unc to me and with weight being less as well as the lump or hump, in sounds like it may be a counterfeit the lump sounds like an injection sight. swaperbob, sap and some others are the ones you want to here from

The lines in the field - if they are raised - I would be very suspicious. There are several things about the way this one looks that suggest a possible forgery. However, it need to be examined closely - ESPECIALLY the edge to see if there are problems with the reeding.

swamperbob, they are actually not lines (though from the picture looks like), that is a raised triangle area.
