1964 Penny With Odd Metal Issue - Coin Community Forum

ace_ftw Pillar of the Community Canada 1747 Posts	Posted 03/12/2015 12:51 pm Hey guys, sorry for hogging the forums today, but I found this penny last night, and had not seen anything like it before. I first thought PMD, but then I started really looking at this. 2 things stood out in my head first, why do this to a penny? Secondly how would you do this to a penny? Please let me know what you think, and if you think its PMD, please explain the Why and how you came to that reasoning. I have zero idea how this would been done in the minting process either other than it was some sort of planchet issue that made it through (I know this is unlikely as well)? ace_ftw Pillar of the Community Canada 1747 Posts	Posted 03/13/2015 11:23 am it does look that way, however to force the piece of metal into the coin that far, and to do that kind of damage, one would expect to see vise marks, or at least some disfiguring of the coin on the other edge.
