I was just looking around Harlan J. Berks website when I came across these 2 coins that I really like. I know the pics aren't that good so you can't see much details, I've emailed them asking whether they can provide me with better pics but in the mean times I'm posting it here. Image: 1879S Observe.jpg18.44 KB Image: 1879S Reverse.jpg19.31 KB Above 1879 S MS64 PCGS at $59 Image: 1879 S Ob.jpg20.36 KB Image: 1879 S Re.jpg21.35 KB Above is also 1879 S MS64 at $55 (not certified) Out of the two I'm more attracted to the one certified by PCGS. But at this price I don't mind going for raw coins as I can fill an album. What do you think would be a good buy? Edited by shatsi 09/04/2005 11:13 am

Shatsi, it would be easier to give you an opinion of the coins if the pics were at least 4-5" at 96 d.p.i. With the pics so small, I can't give you an opinion.

Being that the pictures are so bad its hard to tell. It looks as though I can see carbon spots on the coins. If that the case I would buy them on a bet.

Do you carbon spots on both coins? I'm new at this and I can't seem to identify the spots. Aren't they black spots?

I don't see any carbon spots on either coin. Personally, I like the raw coin better, but it's a very tough choice.

I also think the raw coin has better eye appeal, all things being equal ,that is the one I would buy !!

Do you think the raw coin will grade at MS64?

The reverse of the raw coin looks a little weaker than the slabbed one (Breast and leg feathers), this could be the picture, or it actually could be ? I dont see any thing that leads me to think the raw coin has any wear on it !!
It has a good shot at MS-64 IMO,,especially if the reverse detail is sharper than it appears in the photo!!

I think it has a very good shot at 64.

I think either one would be a nice addition. The raw one looks better to me.
