Just post the question! :D Really depends on what you mean by 'know'.

For example, I can tell the difference between a Lincoln Cent and a silver eagle!

What do you want to know? They should sell for about spot silver price plus $1 to $1.50.

Spot silver is up to $15.83 right now!

That is a bit low since Authorized Dealers have to pay $1.25 over spot for a minimum of 25,000 coins. Unless you can purchase from an Authorized Dealer, you will generally pay $2+ over spot unless you are dealing with a couple dates(1986, 1996).

Gold and silver are really shooting up right now - hard to say if there will be a pullback soon or not.

Yeah, it takes a little work to find them at $1 to $1.50 over spot (or even less than that), but it can be done. My own rule of thumb is $1 over, but I am crafty at coin shows and know where to find the good deals. =)

While dealers do originally buy at $1.25 over from the mint, they often buy them back from people who come in and sell them around spot, and are willing to turn around and sell back to me at $1 over. Or they buy when spot was at $12.50 and are happy to sell $1 over spot when spot is up to $15.50. So it can be done. But, you're right, the "average" retail price is about $2 over spot.

You should also be able to buy near spot or 50 cents to $1 over if buying from an individual instead of a dealer (if you know someone or find someone through the forums wishing to sell).
