I have a 1982 Washington quarter that is missing the reverse planchete. The reverse is copper and the weight of the quarter is less than a regular quarter by approximately 2 grams. I had the guy at the local coin shop confirm that it was missing the reverse planchete. The coin is in great shape and appears to be uncirculated. What is something like this worth?

I think you are referring to a missing clad layer on the Reverse am I correct? If I am not mistaken this is the kind of coin you are referring to http://www.fredweinberg.com/invento....asp?ID=4645 and can be worth a pretty good bit as an error

It could also be milled to be one part of a Magician's coin. A picture is needed for this one. I am sorry to say that many dealers, unless they are very familiar with errors wouldn't know what this coin was.

Bryan1315, that is what it is. It is missing the reverse clad. Sorry for mis-labeling it, I'm still learning. The dealer seemed to know what he was talking about when he looked at it. He first weighed it, and then looked at it under glass. I can't remember exactly what he said but he said that it appeared that the reverse impression was made from the die striking the copper, and not the clad coming off. I would love to post a picture, but I don't have the ability to do so right now. I will work on trying to get a picture put on here. Thanks.

A picture is worth a thousand words on this one. We can tell by the strike on the "copper" side just what the deal is. I was just making a suggestion based upon another possibility . Also, I have seen many dealers who don't know the correct signs used to determine what these are. Of course, your dealer may indeed know exactly what it is.

You could have a good one.

If you have a flatbed scanner, you can actually scan the coin too. It doesn't actually have to be a photograph.

foundinrolls,
I will attempt to scan the Quarter on Sunday when I go to work. I'm not making any promises though because I'm not very good with computers, so please be patient with me. I actually don't even own a computer and the only time I use one is at work. By the way nice website, it makes me want to start looking even harder through rolled coins. I've actually had quite a bit of luck buying halves at the local banks. I even found a Booker T. commemrative.
