Looking through my dads collection, the last 8 seems upside down.
Just looks different?
Thanks as always!

Interesting. To give it accurate thought, it would be really necessary to get a detail shot with the camera and coin as close to parallel as possible. Macro photography distorts perspective, and it's possible to see what we see here simply because of an angled camera.

I'm guessing that's not the case here, although the effect is subdued in the full-face image. It may be something that's within tolerance and looks that way from an odd bit of wear, or it may not.

This is as parallel as it gets.
Hope this helps.

I do not know how they made the dates back then on the dies, but it looks like they put the last 8 punch in upside down or carved it upside down.
Maybe tomorrow it will look right? haha...

Try a pic stright-on on the last 8 like that is the only thing you are photographing... like this- 8 ... I want to see if the bottom loop is a smaller diameter than the top and it's still iffy on those pics

Snerk. Yeah, we can work with this.

Have a look at the insides of the last 8. They appear thinner, and I wonder if the extra thickness of the stroke of the number makes one think the outside diameter is greater. Either way, these images are large enough to actually play with and measure in postprocessing software.
Rest in Peace

There has been much discussion over the years regarding the last 8 in the date. Do a search on VAMworld for inverted 8 and you'll find all kinds of opinions.

Thanks everyone. I think the 8 is inverted.
I'll keep it and see what happens over the years to see if it becomes valuable.
Maybe I could buy breakfast at Dennys with it, haha.
Just kidding...
