I think you need to study some good examples of the various forms of doubling so you can get an idea of what to look for. The link I have provided should help a bit Verbally describing forms of doubling is very difficult to understand without a visual example. Many collectors struggle with this concept, some learn what real doubling looks like and others do not and continue to pay stupid money for items like "1955 poor man's double die" or try to sell die deterioration/machine doubled coins as real DDOs or DDRs, unknowingly ripping off another collector in the process.

I'm pretty sure the 71 is doubled but I think the 88 is Machine Doubling.

I just thought the 88 looked cool. Do you not think the 71 is doubled? the liberty pic is blurry if you cant make it out but you can see it in "GOD". It looks like cherrypickers FS-031, coneca: DDO-001 from where I'm at.

the 88 D shows a normal thing that happens when the post 1982 copper-plated zinc cents are struck. The plating can move around giving the appearance of doubling. It is a form of doubling that does not have any value.

I am intrigued a little by the Y of LIBERTY on the 1971 cent. I cant say anything definitive without a better picture.

Thanks,
Bill

That picture allows me to see that there is no die doubling on this coin.

Thanks for the picture of LIBERTY. It did help a great deal.

Thanks,
Bill
