Hi all! I'm new to the coin collecting world after finding some coins in my parents home. I'm sure I will have lots of questions lol. One question right away is I'm planning on going to my first coin show this weekend what should I expect?

To see coins....

All kidding aside, to the forum...

I have never been to a coin show, but, if it were me, and I was very new in the hobby, I would go in expecting not to buy anything and just taking the sights and sounds of what is going on and educating myself...

Also I would not let on that I was new in the hobby as to avoid being taken advantage of... Now I am not saying all dealers are bad people by any means, but it always seems to be at least one shady dealer no matter what kind of show it is...

Do you have a certain coin/coins you are wanting to collect?
Rest in Peace

well first of all your in the right forum, tons of information here.
for your first coin show you can expect to be blown away by all the different numismatic items that will be displayed. u.s. and foreign .most all dealers will be selling and buying. try to take with you a jewelers lupe or magnifying glass. if you have any particular type of coin your interested in , do yourself a favor and look for those only.
otherwise you'll want to buy everything in the show.
oh yea one more thing : HAVE FUN

Thanks for the welcome and the tips. I think I'm going to start my collection with dimes. I'm thinking of trying to do a graded type set, but maybe more down the line. It won't be anything crazy so they will probably be lower grades I'm just leary of counterfeits.

Welcome. I attended my first coin show as an adult a little over a month ago. My advice: Don't get overwhelmed. Just browse and ASK ASK ASK. Most dealers like to get new people involved (new customers are always a plus) and will help you with anything you want to know. You certainly don't have to buy anything. Most important, have fun like they've all said.
