Picked up my first So Called Dollar. Its a Louisiana Purchase Silver HK-299 with Star. Enjoy! Thoughts on grade, comments and your pics of your So Called Dollars are all welcome!

Great fun HONDO ... I alas know little of these, other to acknowledge there are many passionate collectors who pursue the series ... and the medals are indeed a tremendous slice of USA numismatic history. I have a single SC$1 myself ... 1915 Panama Pacific ... purchased on a whim and has forever inspired a simmering interest in more. Thrilled to view your initial example ... Thanks for sharing! David

@HONDO: Very nice example! It has a very "honest" look to it. Congrats!
Struck in the US Mint exhibit at the LPE, the medal is an official "cousin" to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition gold dollars.

Looks to be a nice XF piece. I still kick myself in the rump for selling this piece in the original holder: Especially due to the fact I was born in Wisconsin.

LeeG, thanks for sharing. Yeah, too bad you let that one go... We've all got regrets for a coin or two let go.
Since we're on the topic, may I ask, what is the coin in your avatar? Is that a So Called Dollar by chance?

Not sure if they consider this a So-Called Dollar. It is the Official Medal from the 1927 Vermont Sesqui Celebration. It was designed by Charles Keck as was the Commemorative Coin for this celebration.
