Probably doesn't belong on this post. This is not a coin, but it looks old, and given to me years ago. Are these common?

It's a medal or token. Yours is very similar to the one in the Smithsonian Collection

Here's a similar one on ebay 111406005200

These are part of a series of tokens, dating back to the 1960-70's era when it was considered "cool" to know all the names of former presidents. Nowadays, having historical knowledge causes one to run the risk of being labeled a "nerd." I seem to recall that these tokens may have been part of some retail business promotion - Shell Oil or Sunoco, perhaps? They do have an "older than they are" look about them and are fairly common.

Perhaps even older.
This might have been part of a child's set of presidents' medals dating to the mid 1930s. I have this set buried somewhere. The last medal, President FDR, had the dates
1933 and --- indicating that he was still in office.
The set that I have is in a box about 5 by 8 inches.

Additionally to the set I have some loose medals of the identical type.
Both came from family members who were kids then.
If I find it I'll research the origin and post again.

mackwork, that example on Canadian ebay is close to the original color.
