1939-p Lincoln with V.B.D. initials 1 cent XF-AU. First it is initialed VBD a little worn and hard to make out but I know that's unheard of but it's there and it weighs 3.1 grams and was in circulation, NO JOKE. Besides that it Looks like something bad happened to die. I few mm in from the rim is a perfectly round indentation going around the whole obverse of the coin. The most dramatic is the top half of GOD WE & TRUST is there with no bottom half just some molten metal, the B in liberty is also a melted blob along with the 3 & 9. Is this a 1909 VDB Planchet on a 1939? Has anybody seen this type of error and know what it's called? The value and rarity? anything of help? I would think this is pretty major error?

The indentation is roller machine damage, not from the die. The VDB on the 1909s was on the reverse and not part of the planchet, but part of the design. The VDB was added on to the bust in 1918 after VDB died. It is just a regular, beat up penny. Sorry.

to CCF.

Your coin is pretty damaged, only premium would be a few cents, if that.
