Greetings fellow Citizens!
I would like to add a Valerian I Antoninianus to my collection soon. I came across this example recently while on my quest.
To my eyes it has an excellent flan with high silver content(for the time), so that's a plus.

Valerian-I-Antoninianus

Does this coin check out okay, and what is a good price for it.
Thanks

Nice looking coin, well centered a little bit of a weak strike on the reverse but overall it would be a nice addition to your collection.

Thanks for the quick answer Echizento. How much do you think this coin is worth?

No one really likes Valerian - his coinage is usually debased, in poor style and the guy was the only emperor captured alive in battle, which was a humiliating thing for the once great empire (this happening in the depths of the crisis of the third century - in fact, his capture sparked the formation of the tear away Palmyrene and Gallic empires). It is said that the debasing problem became so bad that trade reverted to the bartering system.

As such, no-one really collects his coinage, so you can get it cheaply - even the cool and nice stuff. An example this fine id put at £10-15.

Valerian's first few years went well, but you are right. The disaster in 260CE was, well a disaster.
Poor Valerian
