http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21996509/A short exerp: The quarters are scheduled to revert back to their pre-1999 designs after next year. George Washington will remain on the "heads" side of the coin, but the "tails" side where the state designs had been placed will once again feature an American eagle. I'm excited to finish the Statehood Quarter program, but I was hoping for a redesign for the 2009 quarters.

Not meaning to throw water on someone else's enjoyment, but I for one will be glad. I cannot get into a coin that is not at least as old as I am. Hopefully, when we go back to the old design, they will stop looking like a game room token. Bahhhh Hummmbug! Jim

It's definately not looking like we'll be getting any new design in 2009. The pre 1999 quarters aren't very creative in my opinion.

I like the State Quarters and have TONS of them in every available way they were issued. HOWEVER after nine years I will be glad to see it come to an end next year also to finally have complete collections. Oh my now those darn president dollars for many more years.

I guess they want to keep the mint set prices inflated so another coins series begins and another ends.

Has there been any recent talk about extending the State Quarters program one more year to include District of Columbia, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, etc? I know it's been proposed before, but not approved. Is the idea officially dead, or are there plans to try to revive it?

The State Quarter program confounded me and excited me.... honestly it got me back into coin collecting, but I suspect the real value of them won't be for decades... completed books, uncirculated, etc. etc. But hey, I just bought 150 Buffalo nickles and 50 Indian Head pennies for $100.00 a few weeks ago. My interest is renewed for everything now !

eaglefoot, welcome to the forum. I did the same as you and quit for awhile but have had the fire reignited. Looking forward to see your collection. Jim

If you will look in the Numismatic News section of this forum you will see a thread about the mints press release about the 2008 quarters (with designs for them) and it states that 2008 will be the last 5 quarters and the last of the State Quarters program
