I listed a couple of John Adams coins as struck thru errors. I have a potential buyer who is telling me that they look much ore like clashed dies and are worth more than what I am asking (though I disagree) but I am honest seller and wont raise the price after listing it. But for the sake of curiosity I wanted to get your opinion on one of them. I put white arrows to the areas where I thought it was struck through.
fyi this is what the seller wrote to me about this specific coin:
quote:

Is this not a clashed die error? A clash be worth more than struck through. Like on yours some of the features on the REV are the frills in adams collar and shirt..

in my honest opinion (which may or may not be correct) it looks weird, it looks like it would be a strike through because a clash die would need some design on the reverse die right there to transfer on the Obverse die. That being said its weird because it looks (if it is a strike through) that its struck through at the same place on the Obverse and Reverse and something I don't remember seeing this trait on any other coin. Maybe there was something on the Obverse die and the dies clashed and instead of transferring some of the details of the design it transfered some of the material that was on the die to the other die before this coin was struck. As I said this is just a shot in the wind and as you know when you do that sometimes you hit the target and sometimes you are way off

hmmm I see what you mean Bryan1315. I didn't even notice it was in the same spot on both sides, a strike through from clashed dies? That is interesting!
foundinrolls, changed? I am confused on that reply

OK...I changed my response because I vowed to myself that I would not comment on coins going up on ebay. I don't want my professional opinion connected with somebody else's selling of something. I'll give you a hint though. Clashed dies have nothing to do with this coin.
