This thread discusses the same topic. Without better photos, it will be hard to tell if your coin is real or a counterfeit, but you should be able to look at the posted photos of other real and counterfeit coins and get a good idea.

Hope this helps...

Well...if that is genuine, what a find!
And, the condition would be outstanding...if the real thing.

If you post higher resolution pics, I'll take some time to compare this coin to verified examples, and give you my (inexpert) opinion.

Cheers.

I can't tell you if its a copy or not from the photos but I can tell you that most of these you see are cast copies that sell for around $1.00. We would need pictures of the edge of the coin and some bigger pictures of the Obverse and Reverse to tell you anything for sure about your particular coin

It's hard to say if this is real or not, this has been reproduced many time. I have one in my collection made from alum. Three types were issued, one in Pewter KM#EA5, another in Brass (two types) KM#EA5a, and the last in silver KM#EA5b.

Also the word "currency" was either spelled "Curency" or "Currency".

You could check the auction archives at coins.ha.com to get a general idea. Does this example appear to be brass?

Authenticating a coin like this is in the realm of a few experts. Still, I'd enjoy seeing better photos--and congratulating you if this ultimately proves to be genuine.

If real, this coin would be worth at least $10,000, probably more. However, the fakes/imitations/reproductions of this coin severely outnumber the authentic pieces, so the odds aren't good.

But I hope it's real!
