how do you tell the difference between the "Pointed 5" and the "Blunt 5" on a 1985 Canadian small cent?
Does anybody have a picture of the 2 side-by-side?
I bought an album for them because I find so many while coin roll hunting that I thought it would be fun to try to find them all.
Thanks for any help you folks can provide!!

Here you go: The yellow key shows the difference in how the the strokes end. Have you found pointed 5s?

In two years of searching, I've managed to find only two pointed 5's. Oddly enough they were about 3 weeks apart. I haven't seen one now in almost a year. They are pretty hard to find, but it's a great feeling when you do find them. Good luck.

There are also two obverse varieties for 1965.....small beads and large beads. The A in REGINA will point to a bead in the Large Variety and between in the small bead variety. The obverse and reverse were used in all possible combinations resulting in 4 varieties for that year.
Variety 1...SB P5 2...SB B5 3...LB B5 4...LB P5

They exist on the silver dollars as well, along with three obverse bead size varieties. Large, Small and Medium beads, for a total of 5 varieties for that year. The large and small beads can have a blunt or a pointed 5, while the medium beads only comes with a pointed 5. There is a Sm Bead Blunt 5 which has a die axis like US coinage, but only one is known in existance.

Yes, it gets rather confusing too, since those pointed/blunt features are on the lower end of the 5. The only way I could sort this all out was with a few books like Charlton's Catalogue and Charest's guide.
