I don't think it's useless. I mean it DOES give a "floor" or basis with which to bargin.

And it offers a good counter argument when you are out hunting and someone has used the RedBook as their pricing source.

As a dealer I would LOVE to get RedBook prices.

So no, it does have it's uses.

I think it's a relic of the pre Internet days. Now that we have a billion auction results with the swipe of our phones it's yesterday's news. Kinda like using a phone book to find a phone number

Real auction results are the closest thing to a coins FMV.
I use the Greysheet but I don't swear by it. If I were to sell coins based solely on it, I'd be broke.
Again, quality and eye appeal aren't in the Greysheet.
Colonials? Whole different animal/market.

If it's a coin I really want, I've overpayed. Who hasn't?
