I have discovered that I have a olympic hockey quarter that is minted this year (2007). However, looking at the minting year impressed on the back of the coin, it says 2009! Is this a minting error for this coin? Any advice on what to do with it?

Thanks in advance for your input.

It's not an error. It's part of the olympic series. I have not bought a set of these yet but I find it highly unusual that the RCM dates coins for the future.

Sorry, I should clarify, the coin is the Ice Sledge Hockey coin. According to the RCM, the coin will not be released until June 2009. But, I found it in my spare change.

It sounds like someone broke it from a set then and spent it.

Someone got a complete set (which has been available for most of the year), and cracked it open and spent the coins. You happen to be the lucky recipient of one of those coins. Congrats.

i bought my set over a year ago, and I agree that someone must have broken up the set and spent. Sounds silly but good for you.
