Hello again, I am new to collecting and want to run a frequent ancient seller by everyone- is anyone familiar with tina0116g11? I am looking at this specifically: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Dena...em51cf22a3ecThis will be my first purchase (not off the road in Spain), so definitely don't want to get duped off the bat! Thanks everyone!

I follow that seller on ebay but have not made any purchases with them. I also follow these two ancient coin sellers over in Germany. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-Paper...2&rmvSB=trueI have purchased a coin off Savoca and just received it. Very satisfied purchaser. Another member of this forum has had an issue with Savoca though so maybe run any potential buys past this forum for guidance first. Another member of this forum, mrkramer, recently purchased a beautiful Caracalla at a bargain price but has not received his coin yet so he has had no feedback to offer. Good luck and looking forward to any stories on this seller you posted. I check out their auctions often but have ended up following mainly the coins from Germany as I seem to get more bang for my buck there.

I try not buying outside the US. Postal systems in some countries is iffy at best. I just had too many problems getting coins from overseas.

I can't comment on the seller, but that denarius of Trajan you are looking at is worn but looks perfectly genuine (if that was a concern). It is the same issue as the last one shown here of those offered by Savoca, but despite the wear the reverse legend is more complete and the obverse about on par. The one you were looking at is presently cheaper, but both come from Germany.

I've bought about a dozen coins from Germany and not had problems receiving them, although they do take quite a while. I do try to stay US for big purchases though.
Trajan denarii come up pretty often so I'd bail on that one if it went over 35 or 40.

I must agree, itīs a genuine coin but worn. Trajan issued lots of coins, he melted all the previous coinace to made new lighter denarius and aureus. This was neccesary to pay the war against Decebalus, king of the Dacians. After Dacia was conquered, he got an inmense amount of gold and silver that he coined in denarius like these "DACIA CAPTA". If I were you, I would wait for a better one

I avoid ebay in general, however to further clarify I dislike buying outside U.S. However more importantly, I dislike when they distract you with a long biography of an Emperor instead of details on the coin. I am not buying a book on the Emperor, but his coin so I want relevant details. Most ebay sellers are pawning their crap coins, as valuable EF or even VF coins are going through auction houses of far more repute and with better screening, albeit not perfect. Some members disagree but I want a RIC number or ID number, which in this case the coin can be identified but we only get weight, not RIC or even size. Why play the guessing game on ID. Sure, some buyers love when a coin is misidentified and it ends in their favor, but heaven help the seller if it means the coin is less valuable to the buyer. Indeed, I just posted an Aurelian here that I bought under the assumption of RIC 139 awhile back and it seems like it is a RIC 386, which is actually less valuable. I don't really care and I was a newbie at the time but it happens.

Since I saw this I figured I'd post an update since I received the coin. It was well packaged and for coming from Europe didn't take way too long to get here. Mine was from Dionysos, and I would have no problem buying from them again if I see something I like and have the money.

Slevin886 - I've bought uncleaned coins from tina0116g11 before on ebay. They arrived fine, were the same as those in the photos, and there weren't any missing coins. I'm located in Canada, and as you likely know, that seller is in Germany. I'm still in the process of cleaning them - I have several hundred uncleaned coins that are still soaking in different containers (depending upon how 'close I think that they are...) on a lab shaker, and following both oil soaking, and sonication. There are about 20-30 that I'm about to take out. I would have been wiser to keep the coins separated by seller (that was my original intent) but didn't in the end... So I'm unsure which coins came from which seller. I'll post the first batch soon if anyone's interested. They are all unattributed still; however, there are Greek, Roman, medieval, and 'other' coins ('other' meaning that I have zero clue about where they came from...although there is one that is from the 19th century somehow...so probably not a true hoard!). I didn't find any significant difference in quality between the sellers that I've used (*note that I'm very much an amateur at this!). I did find a few 'fakes' - essentially black discs that were covered in mud (I only recognized them for what they were based on reading about them prior).
