Hi again all.
I have a couple of small coins that I am having problems tracking down any info on, as usual. So I have come to the experts again - Sorry. See what you think. Any info is always appreciated.
The 1st is about 17mm in size so quite small but is a bit unusual as I thought this type of coin is normally bigger, but I may be wrong.
It looks a bit like Ant Pius or Commodus.
................
The 2nd is a Byzantine one but again is only a little bigger at 18-19mm and maybe 6 sided?
Anyway, see what you all think.
Cheers.

The first coin look like Lucius Verus to me and the second one is a Byzantine coin. I'll see if I can come up with a reference for you. Both coins appear to have been harshly overcleaned with chemicals which has removed the patina and pitted the surfaces.

Both the coins were just in Olive Oil but both were virtually unrecognizeable as coins. Just lumps of black goo so I thought I did well to get down to this detail. I find when they are really bad, they always have bad pitting that cannot be smoothed out unless you know of a way to do that. I am still new to this so any help really. I think I am expecting too much from the items I am cleaning. I couldn't see any other way of getting this amount of detail out of the coins. It just seems that ancient bronze naturally has small pits and the art maybe geting down to the last layer before the pits show. That's what it seems like. Of course, close-up photos don't help. They look much better in the hand.
