I am currently a Freshman in high school, and I started a coin club at the beginning of this school year. I can definitely understand if you are hesitant to do so because of being made fun of for your passion (I was also in middle school, but surprisingly not in HS).
I started my club, Numismaniacs Coin Club, through my school, and we meet at lunch. I have about 10 members, which is decent for a new club. If you choose to go down the route of starting a club from your school, I'd recommend emphasizing it as Coin Collecting and Investing (you don't have to talk about investing strategies, just that collecting coins is an investment in itself). I started out with meetings introducing what coin collecting is, and the "basics". I have started to go more in depth with teaching grading, et cetera.
I sent out a mass email to many coin dealers at a local coin expo, and many were willing to donate, and I am now pretty much covered for a few years with donations. I give out lots of coins at meetings (for attendance, participating, etc). I have also started what I call "club cash" (business cards from vistaprints that are worth points) that I also give for attending and participating, to eventually be used at the end of year auction. Each meeting is a bit different in regards to whether coins or club cash are given out.
That is just a short description of what most meetings begin with, and I would be happy to help in any way I can. Feel free to direct message me if I can help in any way. I have no doubt that local dealers would also be happy to help and make suggestions.
