Bought a 1871 5 cent piece in EF condition from my LCS over the weekend. Upon further inspection at home, I noticed it's the 7/7 variety as listed in the Charlton. I apologize because my camera equipment is not good enough to show you a picture because the difference is so small but it is identical to the image in the book. I noticed two examples on ebay for very large premiums.

The Charlton gives it a small premium and so does Coins and Canada however, it isn't listed in Trends and also isn't included in ICCS population reports.

My question is, is the coin worth more than a standard 1871 5 cent piece and why does the Charlton list varieties that ICCS doesn't recognize?

Thanks in advance.

It might carry a small premium but not that much. As for Charlton they can pretty much do what they want
