Some help here please. I can only find one of these in my cursory Google search on worthpoint. That one had the card which said it's 1oz of 999 silver and 10gr of 24k gold. Looking for value estimates and rarity. I guess it could be somewhat uncommon?...

And check out how mine toned a light but deep monochrome purple... yes that IS what it looks like in hand!

Your medal was a privately-produced commercial piece vs. being an official state or city medal; it originally sold for $35.

With a silver weight of 24 grams, it contains approximately 0.77 troy ounces of silver. The 10 grains of gold equal approximately 0.02 troy ounces of gold.

Today, the medal is basically worth its melt value (or possibly a slight premium above that to a collector of bicentennial numismatics).

So, the medal's melt value (today, April 22, 2015) is approximately: (0.77 x $15.75 = $12.13) + (0.02 * $1,186 = $23.72) for a total of $35.85 - just about what it sold for 40 years ago!

It's a nice piece - one of a many bicentennial medals to feature Paul Revere. Maybe a collector of Revere material would offer a premium over melt?

Very nice!

The variety in your stepdad's dad's accumulation is pretty cool.

Thanks commems. Boy does it look like a commemorative at first glance. However with the beautiful purple toning color and decent amount of gold it's a keeper anyway

You need to post it. I have never seen one. At least I have warning.

My self, I really love the piece.

I have been a fan of Paul Revere from the time my family took a 1 month trip up and down the east coast in 1976 visiting all the historic sites from the Colonial and Civil war era's.

I got to visit what they said was a shop he smithed in. Very cool!

What a trip and something I will always remember.

Great piece!

Dar,
Maybe you like this one. I had two partial sets of the Freemasonry medals at one time. Sold them off some time ago.

I love the reverse... something about a coin with large, clean fields... perhaps that is why I love the Canadian 1967 coins....

I don't know how recognizable it is in my image but you can see Gilroy Roberts' designer's initials at the lower left of the obverse. The reverse was so nice that I used it as a pattern to make my own Freemasonry medals shown below.
