I am watching these two auctions ending here in the next 18 hours. Probably not going to bid on either it looks like so I figured I would turn it into a learning exercise. Feel free to snipe the auction, just let me know if you do and provide some feedback here on CCF please.

First one I don't like the corrosion on. Enough of an issue for me to not research the coin completely and just pass on it. I don't like this coin but the price looks to be cheap for an owl.

This second one is much nicer. A little pricier, but probably worth it if a real coin. I just wish the owl wasn't as worn. I could end up bidding here, but got my eyes set on a greater prize for tomorrow possibly. . . .

Any thoughts on authenticity or guesses as to sale price?

Those two are quite different. The second has the facing eye of the late 5th century and the first the profile eye of the 4th. The second is worth much more than the first, both on those grounds and fact the profile nose is fully on the flan.

The second coin is much better than the first. As Augustus stated that second coin is the older and more valuable of the two. I'm not sure if that corrosion or some type of deposit on the first coin that can be treated and removed. If it's a choice between the two that the second one is the one you should go for.

I have to say I am surprised that both coins sold for essentially the same amount. I think the second coin was quite reasonable at $330ish.

Been watching several of these lately so there is always another coin to bid on another day.
