Well the subject line is a mouthful. I just bought the CherryPickers Guide vol 2. In it an inverted mintmark 1928-S Standing Liberty quarter is described. I did a little digging and found that the mint mark used in this coin is described as MMS-003 on this page.

and here are my 2 1928-S mint marks an EF coin

and a VF coin

1928-S-25c-Inverted-MM-FS-501-?

So whatcha think. I think the VF is a no doubt inverted, I'm not so sure about the EF coin. Also the book gives a highly inflated price for this variety. A quick search shows coins offered for a lot, but sales are in the normal range for this coin. So are these varieties more for curiosity than actual value?

Inverted MM hasn't catch on among the normal collectors, its another variety only the specialists and die hard collector will pay for such high prices. I also experience the lesser known varieties for the market has soften, or depending in the series you collect is in demand or not.

Then there's the attribution fee from the TPG if you opt to get it attributed... some of the sellers on ebay has gone banana with the prices.
