Hello,

I bought this coin from an estate. I am not sure if this token is authentic. You can find it in the 2008 Red Book pg. 73. I am not sure if this is proof, and looks like the coin is off center on one side.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you very much!!

Nice coin, myestate. I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can comment on it's authenticity. Also, I wonder how common colonial counterfeits are? I know the Spanish pillar dollars are but I don't know about colonial coppers.

Interesting find! You won't get an expert opinion from me, but I do notice an inconsistency of type styles from word to word. For instance, compare the baseline details of "BRITISH" to "KENTUCKY". See how the bases of the letters are split? You might want to look around the auctions to find a similar verified Myddelton token.

I can see the splits on the bottom of the letters. Thank you for pointing it out. Now I think the token is a replica.

If it's a replica, it just might be an older one. Knowing something of type design, the "B" in "BRITISH" is a Gothic Revival style that began in the mid 19th century. I'm guessing the engraver used a type style familiar for the period, and I doubt you'd see such a mistake in a 20C. copy. More info than you need to know!
