I just recently saw one of these. Here's the link to the other. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1781-North-...em3aa19e21b2I have absolutely no idea how to attribute one of these. I'm sure Breen probably wrote a book about them. As far as grade I'd have to say F-12, maybe F-15 but the coin does show some honest wear. The coin is well struck on a nice planchet and has a great color. Great coin.  |

defineitely a favourite token of mine, wish I had one :(. I wouldn't go past a fine 12 on her though.

F-12 is good enough for me! I actually put this guy in my trade list, it was an impulse buy I guess and doesn't really fit my collection.

I'll do some research after I get off work and I'll get back to you. The link I posted has a similar coin with a Breen number so maybe I can find something.

O.K. I've nailed down the attribution to Breen-1144. There is also a reference to a Haxby-15 designation as well. These were minted in copper and in brass. There is only one other variety the Breen-1143 in which the position of the lettering is a bit different. The Breen numbers referenced are from Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins.

The Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American Coins only cites one variety for this token, W-13980. See P. 291.
It references Breen's numbers as 1143 (brass), and 1144 (copper).
URS -11. 500 to 999 specimens known.
URS is the rarity rating used by the encyclopedia.
Regarding grading it notes 'skill is required to grade this issue. High grade coins are rare'.
I grade the coin as F12, possible F15 based on copper cent standards.
