I'm hoping for an assist or two from our neighbors to the north. I've hoarded a pile of Canadian coinage over the years and it's finally time to see what I've collected. I'm a variety/error collector as well, so before I get started, I was hoping for some online/book references on collecting Error/Variety Canadian coinage. I've book marked a few articles and Coins and Canada webpage. Seems that CaC has a reasonably comprehensive listing. Are there others out there akin to Coppercoins is here for US Cents?

Thank you in advance!

Not really anything like Coppercoins in Canada. If you have afavorite denomination, every year the annual Charlton guide covers on denomination (or sometimes Monarch). I would go through the archives of sites such as this to get specific coins you want to find out about. In my opion, there are many mistakes in the CaC website.

The other advantage of the Charlton Standard Catalogue is that it documents a brief historical account of the changes to our coinage, including reasons why and how some varieties came to be. Therefore in addition it serves somewhat as a learning tool as opposed to that of simple valuation.

As well - not saying I'm an expert - BUT by observing the current values throughout the various grades in conjuction to the mintage for that specific denomination, compared to other similar decimals, it is sometimes possible to predict whether future values of specific graded coins will trend upwards or downward, and thus where opportunity may lay. The layout of the Charlton Calelogue makes this easy to do - not rocket science, simply the applied rule of supply and demand.

If you check the appropriate page in http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php it will list the major varieties. Each individual coin page usually also has a list of minor varieties. Sometimes with pictures. There is also a general page of errors/varieties http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins...arieties.php

Thank you everyone for the input. I knew we were getting spoiled a bit by a site like Coppercoins, but I suppose that I might make a good rough pass using the bookmarks I've made and looking into the Charlton Standards. Interestingly a few of the bookmarks I've made to articles references CCF for corroboration on findings. I suppose I may be doing a little leaning.

Thanks again! Kevin
