I have 20 cents of low value that I will be putting up for auction here just to get rid of and maybe get the hang of paypal and how to ship. What would be the best way to ship them here and to Canada? What would my shipping costs be? I plan on placing them in a plastic sandwich bag taped up to lie flat or in a small paper roll. They are somewhat older coins circulated I found CHR.

Assuming you are planning to sell them individually...

...shipping within the US, if you go the ebay postage with tracking route, it's less than 2 bucks each for less than 3oz. When you say low value, if they are really low value, then you can always go the "stamp on an envelope" route.

If selling them all together as a lot, just weigh them, print postage and mail. I'm guessing about 5oz, which should be about $3 through ebay.

Don't know anything about shipping to Canada.

Every shipping service, as well as ebay itself while you write the auction, has software on their websites which allow you to calculate exact shipping cost based on weight, distance (in some cases) and packaging before you commit to any particular shipping method. So you need to be able to get a fairly accurate weight estimate.

You're selling these as a lot, right? Not a chance of making profit selling them individually.

I was planning on selling on this site at auction for the lot. The coins don't mean anything to me but they are older and in good shape. I'm not sure if anyone is going to be interested but it's worth a try and is better then them taking up room in my safe.

I agree that it would be wasteful to auction off on ebay since it would use up my item quota lol.

I'm just wondering cause I don't know what I need to start the auction at. Or wheter just to have a shipping charge and start it at $1 for fun. I never sold anything online before so this will be like a dry run.

Others' opinion may differ from mine, but I generally do not include shipping in sales offerings. I don't charge anything but exact shipping - time and materials are on me - but I'd rather shipping be known to the buyer as an extra because if not they'll try to get the item for just the cost of shipping and bidding stays lower. Must be some sort of psychological thing.

If the item's value permits, often I'll do "shipping's on me over a bid this high" and reflect that when I invoice after the sale.

Wouldn't that involve you having to bill twice? Once you get the intial money then after for shipping?
