weight is .300 oz each coin with a diameter of 30mm each
these friend of mine that has let me search all of his rolls put away many years ago told me he has had them for over 50 years, and that he found them in circulation.

Look like cast counterfeits.

how can I tell what material they use?

X Ray Florescence testing will reveal what elements are in the surface layer, and will prove if the coin is genuine or not.

I do not think the expense of XRF testing is justified in this case.
Certainly cheaper to be left not knowing via XRF, when I think SSK's opinion is correct, anyway.

Cast counterfits maybe contemporary that are a bit worse for wear. Looks like they melting in a way silver wouldn't do. Rims definitely have a cast look to them.

They sure do look cast to me. so 50+ years ago counterfeiters weren't as good as the modern day Chinese.
