Is this just a typical nickel with Machine Doubling or something else?

I'm sure this is post mint damage, but the I in liberty looks split and elongated, but it doesn't really show any cause. And was the L rubbed off by man, or was it caused by a die break?

I'd say it was the die. I have a cent with the "I" missing in L_BERTY.

Thanks for replying.

Can someone tell me about the I and what happened, and what about the 2nd nickel? Thanks to all!

Hi Bre, looks like Machine Doubling on the nickel. The cent appears to have post mint damage on the in the I in liberty and the missing letter is more than likely from a strike through. Also called a Grease Filled Die. The devise negative on the die had grease in it and does not allow for the coin to receive the image. My thoughts, anyway.
Jim

After looking at it one more time, that is more likely a die chip on the "I".
