I was just wondering if anyone can identify this banknote for me please ? I think it is Chinese but I can get no further so any help much appreciated.

Yes looks like China.
It is surely 1 Yüan (= 1 dollar)
cyclic date can be 21
Probably empire of China, but there are so many branches with each their own banknotes....
Sorry I did not find this banknote, but my eyes turned rectangular already (I will resume the search after a good night sleep)

It is a "one dollar" (one yuan) temporary deposit receipt issued in May, 1919 by the Binjiang (Pinkiang) Chamber of Commerce in Harbin which is located in China's northeast province of Heilongjiang.
