Im not sure I'm pretty new at this. But this,to me, looks better than a business strike and not as good as a proof!any opinions? Posting pics was tricky. Lol but I'm trying to post more!

The reverse die used is not a proof die.

I know its not a proof. I have one and this is either just a nice business strike or an sms. Just cant find alot of info on how to tell the difference. Just to send it in and have it graded.

As far as I know, the SMS sets were 1965-1967 and not in 1964.

Right. But ive heard that the 1964s were a sort of prototype because the mint wasnt going to put out regular mint or proof sets. So thats y there is little know and y they are so valuable.

I see a normal business strike, possibly lightly buffed with a polishing cloth.

Lol more than likely! But like I said I'm pretty new at this and haven't seen a silver quarter look like that! Thanx for your opinions. More definitely welcome!

Should I post in a different section for grade opinions?

jiffy420, go with Biokemist advice. the coin is a cleaned coin. As a new member remember, Quote: Please do not use it here. Example: How r u? Please save that for I'm and text messaging and use full text here. With the silver content it is worth more than .25 cents depends upon the silver price of the day.

Ok. Thank you. Kind of disappointing, but still a beautiful coin (in my opinion) think ill hang on to it for a while at least.

There were sms coins minted in all denominations in 1964, there have been less than 3p of each found it is possible but highly unlikely. Do a forum search for 1964 sms. There is a ton of information. I've been reading for days

PLEASE NOTE! The 1964 SMS were a special test strike, only a certain amount were made and NONE were issued for circulation intentionally. So, the absolute WASTE of time searching for these specimens as with certain other "type" coins hyped by the "get rich with coins" crowd(writers mostly), is nothing but a bunch of hoo-wee! Only one's getting rich are the writers of said books! Another favorite besides this 64 SMS is the 82D copper Lincoln Cent. Now EVERYONE is looking for them... In 35 years, no others had been found, only one. A fluke? Indeed, or a "mint-assisted error" or a darn good fabrication. There are other coins in this category, limited minting, NIFC, accidental stampings of one-of-a-kinds, look for them if you like, but this is the one big disappointment of the promise of riches, it has turned off many possible new collectors when they find nothing valuable over time, sad state this is so widely promoted. Unreal expectations and massive disappointment.
