I picked up a couple souvenir spoons from Fredericton, St.John, Woodstock, Hartland and other towns at various yardsales.
I can't find his contact name Liverpool but I work with artists in New Brunswick in a little art gallery and there is a guy from Perth area that is a blacksmith and he makes hat hooks and stuff out of old silverware. Sometimes the silverware he uses has (had) more value as a collectible then bullion.

They are getting hard to find, With all of these gold and silver buyers coming through I'm guessing a lot of it has gone to the melting pot. Kinda sad.

I tried to post pictures of my silver spoons - nothing all that remarkable to see like Liverpool's anyway. I will likely scrap them. I want to figure out how to do the photos, but I have been busy....hunting for silver ;-) I picked up a large 50 gram spoon at a garage sale for $1.50 on Saturday :-) Also some nice designer (Simon Debagg and Lopez Taxco) bracelets for about 50% of melt. What do you think of this possible deal? I have a chance to buy either: 18 Reed and Barton forks totaling 709 grams for $375 OR 24 Reed and Barton spoons totaling 902 grams for $475 about 10% over melt, but definitely too good to scrap nice quality with pouches, maybe resaleable on ebayAny thoughts or opinions?

If you are flipping them to ebay it is always a risk with premiums and shipping costs. To buy them out right for 10% over spot you can do okay with the right buyer. If you are willing to buy and hold for awhile, who knows. Good luck if you go that way.

I didn't buy the spoons or forks, but it was tempting.

I have always seen "silver"ware at garage sales but my question is how does one figure out if they are actually silver instead of whatever it is they make it out of now? I was always curious about them.

I play it pretty careful, it must say sterling, or 925, or have the lion on it. Do not buy EP, or EPNS, they are both silver plate

Liverpool- I'll keep you in mind when I run across some. As a side business I buy abandoned storage units and sell the contents (like on TV). I've bought over a hundred units and only found real silverware in our first unit if I remember correctly. Now that I collect/save silver, I cant seem to find any.

I inherited a set of Gorham Plate silverware that had been a wedding present to my mother and father in 1944. It's a bit worn, but after passing on my set of flatware I'm using the silverware instead as daily utensils - just as my folks did for years. I grew up using this set, so every meal is nostalgia time for me.
