Is there much difference between the ones with the clamp and the ones without.

Anyone have a couple of these that need a new home? If not does anyone know where to get them for cheap?

Thanks!

I have the one's with the stand and the one's with the clamp. It seems to me the one's with the clamps put out a more 'yellow' light when compared to the one's with the stands which are whiter.

I am ordering 2 more with the stands as a matter of fact. I get them from Amazon for $27.00 with a prime membership.

EDIT: I just put my order in for 2 and they have 3 left at this price.

Hope this helps

You can get them from Ikea for around $10, if you order it will be +$10 shipping.

The reason we like Jansjos is because they're cheap and maneuverable. In truth, they output less light than I'd like, but their flexibility makes living with longer exposures worthwhile. Anything that looks like one will do just as well. There's an Ikea in Portland if you can get that far. They sell Jansjos in the store as bin fillers, loss leaders for the building. You'll see wingstacks of them.

Well, $30 for two of them shipped to the door doesn't sound unreasonable.

Not at all. These *are* a loss leader for them, and are probably being sold at or under cost.

I have 2 of the clamp variety. The color is not consistent, nor is the light output(in my sample size of 2). One is dimmer and more yellow than the other.

There is also the USB type - those put out a lot less light, but are much smaller and easier to maneuver. Sometimes.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, they are $10.99, plus shipping, plus tax, which brings the total closer to $40 for the pair. Still a good deal for the average person. Unfortunately I'm not quite normal and a bit of a cheapskate , so I waited for some to show up on ebay used. I have 3 of them with the bases and they work fine. So, if you have some time they show up on ebay once in a while, otherwise just spring for them new.

So are you people saying these are good lighting for photographing coins?!! I have a (very) tall one of these at home for reading... the light looks rather yellowish to me but still I suppose it could do fine for photography. Is there a different bulb you could/can buy to get a more "white" light?
And while were on the subject of lighting, what else is there for this/our purposes in the "reasonable" price category? I always thought you'd need that rather fancy "tent" lighting/diffused lighting.

Usually folks want a coin to look like it does when viewing "in-hand", so tent lighting and highly diffused lighting is out. Those methods are good for documentation purposes but not for making the coin look like it does naturally at a coin show or at your desk, unless maybe you view your coins in a light tent when grading or sorting?
