I tried to send a private thank-you to a poster, there being no need to clutter up the forum with it - but still getting a message that I'm too new to be allowed to send anything.

Considering that I originally registered in 2011 (!) how long does it take until I'm no longer considered too risky as a new arrival?

Yes, it is post-count related, rather than time-related.

The restriction on low-post-count members sending e-mails was put in place to prevent people joining the forum and using the forum's e-mail system to send out spam. You'd be surprised how often that used to happen - and how often it still happens, even with the post-count limit in place.

We don't advertise what the post-count threshold is to activate e-mails, because it's automatic - and we want to discourage the spammers from slamming down x number of "hi there" posts just to boost their post count so they can start spamming straight away.

Just a general comment, posts that aren't of good quality don't count towards the post count.

All that being said, a "thank you" is certainly not considered clutter
Rest in Peace

It's when you quit trying to look older, and start trying to look younger. Sorta.
