Why does the Coinstar machine reject wheat pennies frequently? I've noticed people saying that they find them frequently in there, but I got my first Coinstar wheat a few days ago. Is it because they weigh more due to their age?
Weight shouldn't be much of a factor, since pennies can range in weight from 2.5-3.2g, based on zinc vs bronze.
More likely, the rejected wheat cents are corroded, which affects their conductivity and may trigger a counterfeit/foreign flag for the coin to be rejected.
