I picked up a lot of 85 world coins today for $4 CDN. Some decent coins so far for resale. Then I came across this 1819 silver six pence.

I would appreciate getting a grade on it. I can take some microscope pics of any areas if a variety is possible.

I'm afraid this is not a genuine sixpence. Besides the colour being way off (I assume it's a brass counterfeit that may have been silver-washed once), the design is very crude and sloppy when you compare it to a genuine 1819 sixpence. Look particularly at the sizes and spaces of the date-numerals, the coarseness of the details on the shield and the way that the bottom of the belt on the reverse simply disappears into the mist.

It's still a 200-year-old artifact in its own right - it's just not a genuine sixpence.

Well, that bites! Thank you for the info, Sap. Many others will learn as well when looking at this thread. Always best to research when not sure. Glad I didn't list it!

Sixpence is a contemporary copy/forgery made at or around the dated on coin to be used to spend.

Do a search on ebay and you will see shillings and half crowns same era (copies/forgeries).

I would say your sixpence maybe fetch $10 to $20 USD on ebay
