We are heading to the French Quarter in 2 weeks for some fun, fun, fun and I may slip away from the fam to see if I can find some coins, bullion and/or vintage/antique jewelry. We stay on Esplanade near the Mississippi River and have access to the Treme, Faubourg Marigny, Bywater and such by foot and I will have our van to go further if necessary. Does anyone have suggestions for LCS's, antique stores with coins or anything like that? We've been going there forever but I've just been bit with the coin bug the last few years and have never explored the Quarter and beyond for coins and such. Any thoughts?

Go to the Mint! It's fairly cheap, and very interesting. It has an exhibit with every type of coin ever minted there. It's at the southeast corner of the Quarter, next to the French Market.

There are a couple of places that sell coins. There's one on Royal Street next to Brennan's. It has a lot of good stuff, but at tourist prices. There are a few banks there (lots in the CBD), and I had some success roll hunting the last time I went.

We live 2 streets from the Mint and have enjoyed it in the past. We "live" at our timeshare several times a year and usually hit the Market, Quarter, Marigny and then go to the swamp to fish. Good idea, though, CPC24! It will help me keep the scent and take up chase. I will check some banks and see if they have anything I can hunt, too. I know a place on Royal where the Bakelite lady has her shop and I've bought jewelry there before. I'll check the place by Brennan's, too! Thanks!

I went to NO this summer and found a great antique rifle and coin shop right off of the French quarter near the water and cafe du monde. I cant for the life of me remember what it was called but it was an amazing store full of history

In two weeks about I too will be with family heading to New Orleans (Well Gulf shores but with one day driving to N.O.) That was a great idea to see the mint there! That would be awesome if I can sneak away from the family for a little. Do they sell any coins at the mint there? I know it is not running anymore but wondered if it was just a tourist attraction without any coins?
Rest in Peace

I second that motion to meet in NOLA! I don't think the Mint sells coins but I'm gonna check!

Nope. No coins for sale at the Old U.S. Mint. Bummer. I'll still go and have fun!

Thanks for checking! Yeah that would still be cool to visit it! But yeah I doubt I actually have any budget for coins (since I am saving for the ANA show) but still fun to look!
