Just started about a month ago and have less than 100 oz silver. My 13 year old son has more than me! He has earned every bit.

Everytime silver shoots back up a few dollars I convince myself that I have enough and I will go 2-3 weeks without buying any. Then it falls back down and I start back buying 5-6 ounces again. I think silver knows I am weak and is doing this on purpose!

I have stacked 455 ounces of silver in varies forms and have about 2.6 ounces of gold. I have lately gotten into Canadian commemorative coins. The Royal Canadian Mint puts out a fine product.

I try and average an ounce a week. That doesn't mean I buy one ounce every single week. I take what comes along when I see it cheap. How much do I have? I don't even know. It's better that way.

@davec13

One of these days, count it; if you are anything like me after not looking at your collection for awhile, you will be surprised with what you forgot that you have.

I am sure with over the years of collecting I am into the thousands of ounces.

I have not bought to stack tho, neither gold or silver, just have been collecting the coins I like.

In the past 3 years tho, my collecting has slowed down, on purpose as I started seeing prices coming down due to the spot market.

I have really pulled in each year, and really have concentrated and made an exception for my Somalian elephants, tho even there I have pulled in. As an example, I have refused to buy a Kilo elephant coin and have ignored gold somalian elephant coins.

The main reason being that the downtrend in silver and gold has brought the prices down of those coins and thats too much to put into a coin when I know it will either be cheaper once the slide is over... and if not, then I would rather buy as prices finally break the downtrend and start to go higher. The other reason was dealers such as MCM not pricing their coins even remotely close to spot price.

But no, I was not buying coins at the top, a big major portion of my collection was when prices were rising early early early and I continued to buy.

Its been a long run in some aspects.

I am in the same boat as davec13 in reference to having no idea how much I have.

I have to visit the Safety Deposit Box and take out my silver and then catalog it at home and return it asap.

Please someone correct me but with 90% silver coins that a $ 1.25 face is equal to a troy ounce?

I think $1.35 face is closest to one ounce. Edited to add: Wiki says $1.40, as in $14.00 would be ten ounces.
