I am questioning the authenticity of this coin. The reeding on the back is worn off, yet the letters are sharp. Have you tried weighing it? It should weight 5.44 grams and not be magnetic. Good luck! I'm sure the experts here will be able to tell you fairly quickly.

Good questioning, the reverse doesn't match any of the 1809 varieties.

The lack of denticles on an early issue such as this does not bother me, but the fact that it doesn't match any of the 6 known varieties for the year does.

This is either a previously-unknown variety (unless there are now more than 6 and I don't know it), or a counterfeit. My money is on the latter.
