a 100 yen in a framed protective cover. bottom on front of coin has 45 and 3 bars. back side has a volcano by sea ? bought this at an auction and none of us knew wha it is. I am of course, new to this coin collecting and more than likely have been caught in a "gotcha". sale. any help about this coin is appreciated and hopefully someone can tell me what its value is and then I'LL know if I made my first of probably many mistakes until I know more .

Welcome to the forum Nancy. You will not be the first to buy a coin that is a fake or is not worth what you paid for it. We have all been through it. The biggest thing is knowledge, and by you being on this forum, it tells us you want to learn.

As for the coin in question, we will need much larger pictures to be able to help you. You are using a very small portion of the allowed bandwidth here for your photo. You can upload files as large as 100k. I would suggest cropping your photo to include only the coin, and then resizing up to about 500X500 pixels, or whatever will get you close to about 80k in size.

I will try and send more pictures that are larger. new to this so please excuse my uncertainies as to what I am doing with pictures. from all appearances, the coin has been out of the frame to look at but is in new condition. I have to admit my curiosity is growning in my quest to appraise and know what I have..fun, fun.. I have surfed in and out of so many places I now have jet lag.

Hi Nancy. Your pics are getting better. You can still make them larger. You can also crop out all of the excess of the holder to make it even larger. We have a Testing forum area where you can play around and try better options instead of clogging up this post with the same pics.

Here's an example, although I am losing detail by using your picture and just resizing and cropping:
